Getting the page the size you want

Ceiling heights differ, so there is no single correct distance. This is the method — it takes about a minute and you only do it once, because the projector stays where you leave it.

Put it beside the bed, lens up

A nightstand works. So does the floor, or a stack of books. It only needs a flat surface and a clear line to the ceiling.

Tilt the head until the square lands where you look

Lie down first and check. The spot you want is straight above your face, not above your knees — most people aim too far down the bed on the first try.

Move it to size the page

Closer to the ceiling makes the page smaller and brighter. Further makes it bigger and dimmer. Slide it a few centimetres at a time until a line of text spans comfortably without your eyes travelling.

Turn the dial until the text is sharp

On Premium this happens by itself. On Standard, turn the focus ring slowly past the sharp point and back — it is easier to find coming back than going forwards.

Turn the lamp off and check from your pillow

This is the only test that counts. If it is comfortable from where your head actually rests, you are done.

One thing worth knowing before you start: this is an evening device. In a room with daylight the page will look washed out no matter where you put the projector. That is physics, not a fault — every projector loses to the sun.

If something looks wrong

  • The page is a trapezoid, not a rectangle
    That is keystone, and it happens whenever the projector is not square to the ceiling. Straighten it so the lens points as close to straight up as the tilt allows, then correct the rest in the projector's keystone setting.
  • The text is sharp in the middle and soft at the edges
    You are too far off square. Same fix — get the lens closer to perpendicular.
  • It is bright enough but the text feels small
    Move the projector further from the ceiling and re-focus. Bigger page, slightly dimmer.
  • It is big enough but too dim to read
    Move it closer, and check the lamp is off and the curtains are drawn. Contrast matters more than brightness here.
  • The image is upside down
    There is a projection-mode setting for ceiling and rear projection. Flip it there rather than turning the unit over.
